Dental Exams & Cleaning

In addition to a daily regimen of brushing and flossing, visiting your dentist on a regular basis is a very important part of maintaining your dental health.  It is advised that patients of all ages visit their dentist every 6-9 months.

No matter how well you brush and floss, there are some areas of your mouth that are difficult to keep clean. Dental professionals have the proper training and equipment to keep your mouth clean, healthy and functioning properly.

During your regular appointment, you will receive a thorough check-up and cleaning. Dr. Pohlman will check for and observe potential issues that you may not be capable of detecting. During your appointment, the dentist will:

  • Take x-rays which will show cavities and structural problems that are not visible
  • Check the state of your crowns and fillings to make sure they are in good shape
  • Check for cracks and fractures within your teeth
  • Remove plaque or debris below the gum line
  • Check the alignment and bite of your teeth to make sure that they are functioning properly
  • Detect early signs of oral cancer
  • Detect early signs of gum disease or other dental health issues.

It is also important that you inform Dr. Pohlman of any changes, difficulties or concerns you may have with your dental health. If you experience pain, sensitivity, bleeding, persistent bad breath or odd after-tastes, your dentist needs to know. We want to make sure that we are giving you the best possible care to maintain your Big Happy Smiles.
