Dental Implants

Loss of teeth can be a traumatic experience. There is no need to prolong that trauma by being forced to live with gaps in your smile. Dental Implants could be the option that restores your Big Happy Smiles. Whether you have recently suffered tooth loss or have been forced to live with dentures or partials, Dr. Pohlman will discuss how dental implants could be the solution for you.

Dental implants involve a surgical procedure which places an artificial root into the bone of your jaw. A titanium post is the base to which the crown is attached. Although the procedure may seem invasive and painful, the benefits far outweigh the alternative. If a lost tooth is not replaced with an implant, you may risk deterioration of the jaw bone.

Without the root which was supported by the jaw, the surrounding bone loses its structure. Adjacent teeth can collapse, shift and invade the cavity left by the missing tooth.  Where multiple teeth are missing, facial structure can become compromised, and the stability of surrounding teeth may also deteriorate.

Advantages of Dental Implants

  • Replaces missing teeth with solid, natural-looking prosthetics that are strong, durable and long-lasting
  • Relieves pain
  • Restores the ability to chew properly
  • Maintains facial and jaw structure
  • Helps to maintain alignment and position of remaining teeth
  • Stimulates bone growth becoming a permanent part of the jaw structure

Because the procedure is surgical, Dr. Pohlman will do a full assessment to make sure that you are a candidate for a dental implant. Patients must have proper bone density and a healthy immune system prior to undergoing the implant procedure.

Once your implant procedure is complete, the dentist will give you complete care instructions to maintain your new dental work. Just like any other procedure, a regimen of good oral hygiene is necessary to maintain your Big Happy Smiles for a lifetime.
